We as humans, are a social species, meaning that we survive and thrive from being in close contact with other people. After all, the only reason we are here now as a civilization is because of our ability to work as a team.
According to Maslow's Pyramid, sex and the feeling of belonging to someone are two of our basic necessities. Think about it, you wouldn't be here, reading this article if your parents couldn't fulfill these needs.
With that being said, intimate relationships are crucial for the evolution of humankind, although every one of us prefers to go around the idea of having a relationship in a different way.
For example, some people prefer to have more serious relationships, fulfilling both the sexual and belonging necessities at once, while others rely more on something with less emotional involvement, such as one night stands, quick flings or by contacting one of their local escorts to show them a good time. They satisfy the feeling of being loved through other means, like family, for example.
Some people even ditch these two needs altogether, isolating themselves from society. The way we go about our relationships can drastically impact our personalities and our day to day lives, and that's what we are going to talk about today.
Confidence
Knowing that there is someone out there, who likes you so much that he or she is willing to spend the majority of their time with you drastically improves your confidence. We all want other people to like us, and when that doesn't happen we start to feel lonely and depressed. That's why relationships are a key part of building someone's confidence.
The same thing goes for the ones who aren't looking for a serious relationship as well. Although not in the same way, being single can also help improve confidence. It really depends on the way you look at the situation. The feeling of independence and not having to rely on someone else to help solve your problems makes you feel like you're self-sufficient.
Empathy
Empathy is one of the key things that makes communication with other human beings meaningful. The ability to feel the other person's emotions is what binds us together. A healthy relationship does just that, it makes you become more empathic towards other people.
After all, you and your partner both rely on understanding each other's emotions in order to make the relationship work. After a while, you might notice that you're able to relate with other people outside your relationship as well. You can now have more engaging conversations that will help you to connect with people much better.
Whereas, most of the ones that do not want to get involved in anything serious might lack this trait. There's not enough of the word "we" in their thinking, it's more about themselves. They tend to not think about the feelings of other people as much, making them less empathic.
