Growing up in the Midwest had a few perks. I know most people think of the area as flyover country but nothing beats wide open spaces, fresh air, being able to ride your back miles and miles from home as an 8 year old. Another amazing benefit? Fresh maple syrup. My grandparents make their own syrup and I’ve been so spoiled by it that I can not eat anything but the real thing. Imitation syrup? Not welcome in my house!

When FitFluential partnered with the The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers I had to say yes. Hello beautiful Canadian Maple Syrup. I know most people think of it as just a breakfast item but I made a delicious fall cocktail with the Canadian maple water, syrups, apple cider, and bourbon. This is perfect to sit and sip with comfy clothes on, a cozy blanket, a nice warm fire and the magazine or book of your choice.

How much do you know about Canadian Maple Syrup?

  • Maple syrup is “pure” and “all natural.”
  • 80 percent of the world’s maple syrup comes from Canada
  • Maple syrup is 100% natural and a great alternative to sugar. Because it is unprocessed, it
contains beneficial vitamins and minerals, including manganese, riboflavin, zinc and
    potassium.
  • Maple syrup is a natural energy source, providing you with simple carbohydrates easily
broken down by the body into glucose and used for fuel during exercise.
  • Maple syrup contains 54 different antioxidant compounds. Antioxidants protect our cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals from intense physical exercise.
  • Maple syrup is an excellent source of manganese and zinc, two minerals vital for muscle
recovery. A 1/4 cup of maple syrup meets 100% of your daily need for manganese, and 18%
of the recommended daily value of zinc.

You may have known a few of those but did you know anything about maple water? I had never heard of it but it is seriously delicious. Full of the electrolytes, minerals and antioxidants naturally occurring in sugar maple trees, maple water is also naturally low in sugar. With only 20 calories per serving, it has half the calories of coconut water, making it a healthy and refreshing source of hydration. Scott hates coconut and this is a great substitute!
