Revlon ColorStay Shadow Links

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema

This is probably the coolest, most unique and possibly senseless things I have seen by a drugstore beauty brand. I got 4 of these babies at $2.99 a piece, which is actually rather expensive when you consider that you can get a 4 shadow palette from e.l.f for two bucks at the same quality.  Anywho, on to the review.  These shades come in a variety of shades and finishes including metallic, satin and pearl.  If I had been paying more attention, I would have gotten one of each.
Shades
Oyster (metallic): a sheer, metallic golden white
Copper (metallic): a true metallic copper
Taupe (satin): a grey, brown taupe
Cocoa (satin): a sheer medium to dark brown

When swatched without a primer, you may get the impression that these shadows are going to be horrible.  Which is exactly what I thought.  But swatched with a primer, the pigment is more intense and smooth.  With or without primer, I find the copper shade to be the most pigmented.  I didn't use an expensive primer. I just used the e.l.f primer and had great results.

Once on the eyes, I find that these shadows perform quite well.  In all honesty, I was surprised by that because I expected it to be a rather crappy product.  But the shades are long lasting and blend fairly well.  The texture of the shadow is not the best, but it is still pretty good. They are smooth, but I can detect the faintest hint of grit.  Oyster is slightly powdery, but I did not have that problem with the other shades.  If you are going for a slightly darker/dramatic look, you will have to build them up a little bit, but it can be done.
The coolest thing about this is the packaging and the ability to create your own palette.  Each link has a groove one on side and on the other is a piece that allows it to be connected to another link.  A cute idea, but at $2.99 a pop, they can get expensive pretty quickly.  You can connect them anyway you want, kind of like Legos.

Overall, this is a cute idea and the shadows themselves are not bad quality.  But considering the price, I can't say they are worth the money unless you just really want to try them out.  I can also see them making a cute stocking stuffer for a teenager you is just starting to use makeup.
Have you tried these yet, or are you going to pass on them?
