Review: Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense

By Beautifulbuns

Ooh la la~ Just when the western brands are just on the BB cushion bandwagon, the Korean brands (which pioneered this trend) have already moved on to the 2nd and 3rd generation of their cushions. Sulwhasoo alone already has a Perfecting Cushion, a Perfecting Cushion Brightening, and now, the Perfecting Cushion Intense .

Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense

Now I’m normally a shade 13-21 for Laneige, and after testing these shades out, my color is 21 Medium Pink. Inititally I was a bit concerned that it might be too pink for me (cos my skin gets red and flushed very easily), but thankfully the pink tones on shade 21 aren’t that strong.

A beautiful gold foil seal (unlike all the others I’ve tried, which are usually just a white plastic with instructions).

Face: Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense (21, Medium Pink), Lips: Innisfree Real Fit Lipstick (shade 12, review to come soon), Cheeks: Mille Beaute Blusher (review to come soon).

I say…

The Packaging: The usual compact casing with the airlock tray/sponge holder. However, this is gilded gold along the sides while the top is a glossy finish and the bottom is a matte finish.

The Scent: A very iconic Sulwhasoo scent (with pine/herbs methinks).

The Finish: The coverage is medium-high, evening out the skintone while sufficiently covering minor blemishes. Dark eye circles require a concealer (photos above did not involve the usage of concealers). It’s  slightly more matte than dewy (say… 65:35), so there is a slight shine/radiance around the cheekbones and nose bridge, but isn’t overly shiny.

The Verdict: Note that the oil control isn’t strong for this one, so after about 5 hours, the shine started showing on the skin. I also noted slight patchiness on the chin (where the active sebum glands started working). On bumpier areas (where there are white/blackheads), this cushion also didn’t sit well, emphasising their presence instead (which does serve as a timely reminder to exfoliate your skin and ensure a thorough cleanse to rid the clogged pores). On days when my skin is particularly dry, I wouldn’t use this because it doesn’t quite sit well (it gets patchy), so be sure to ensure your skin is moisturised and hydrated enough. Overall, I do like its brightening finish as well as the marked improvement from its predecessors in terms of coverage. However, the small con is that it’s not the most suitable for dry skin types/for re-application in dry climates tho (try the previous Sulwhasoo Perfecting or Perfecting Brightening cushions which are more hydrating but have slightly lesser coverage).
