Review: Make Up For Ever Ultra Hd Microfinishing Pressed Powder

By Beautifulbuns

Now I’ve never been one to apply powder to set my makeup (be it BB cushions or foundations), simply cos they would cake and make my makeup look meh. Alas, I realize it might have just been the type of powder I used (and also my level of laziness heh).

Make Up For Ever Ultra Hd Microfinishing Pressed Powder – SGD$61

Official product description:

Created for the very latest high-definition technologies of the film and TV industry, ULTRA HD advanced formulas look invisible on 4K camera and to the naked eye. Perfect for the makeup pros and for you. Last step to ULTRA HD perfection: ULTRA HD MICROFINISHING PRESSED POWDER is a finishing powder that gives a light matte effect and a smooth luminous finish. A real technical and sensory feat, this invisible veil of powder combines synthetic mica, silicone powders and silica to instantly blur fine lines, pores and imperfections for a beautifully smooth complexion. Also enriched with hyaluronic acid. For a perfect ULTRA HD compatible finish, use a very small quantity and blend evenly. Apply over make up or wear alone using a kabuki brush.

I say…

The Packaging: A sleek, flat, compact case that has a depressable latch to unveil an inbuilt mirror. Although the size and the slimness make it convenient to carry around, it does not come with a brush (total bimbo moment: I brought it out that day so I could touch up, and voila, I did not have anything to apply it with hurhurhur).

The Scent: None.

The Texture: Like a rap song, all that keeps running through my head is “Baybeh you’re so fineee”. The powder grains are indeed extremely finely milled – I was pushing my little camera to the max by trying to make it focus on the grains. There’s minimal to no fallout, and it really is invisible to the eye.  I prefer using a large fluffeh powder brush to pick up, and dust it gently all over the face.

The Verdict: I swear by this – my current favorite cushion is Hera’s new Black Cushion. It gives great coverage but it also has a non-velvety finish to it, which I now solve by dusting on a light layer of this Ultra HD powder – voila I haz a perfect finish! It doesn’t get cakey, and doesn’t draw unwanted attention to the pores – instead, it smoothens out the skin’s texture as well. I use it to set foundations that are slightly more dewy/moist, and this helps to prolong the wear time slightly (because everything simply slides off the face in this humid climate) – even foundations that have a slightly more matte finish (eg Suqqu’s Frame Fix Foundation Lightness) will last longer with this powder . Overall, a good finishing powder to have and to hold (the pan is large, and you only need very little per usage).
