Now I’ve been a fan of La Roche-Posay since many years back, when I first started working at CLEO in 2009 and discovered this brand whilst excavating for products in our beauty stash.
From their website – these are their claims:
- After 24 hours: imperfections look visibly less red*.
- After 8 days: localised imperfections appear significantly reduced*.
- After 4 weeks: pores look unclogged, skin texture looks refined. Controls the appearance of shine**.
I say…
Most beauty fanatics will go oohh and ahhh over pretty packagings, so unfortunately, this doesn’t have that effect on anyone. But waitttt. Before you write this off, read on.
- First and foremost, it comes in a nondescript plain white tube with a clinical-looking packaging, and a name that (tbh) doesn’t tell me what it does.
- It has a nozzle tube that dispenses product sparingly.
- There’s not much of a scent to the gel-cream.
- It’s lightweight and easily absorbed.
- There’s no stick/greasy after-feel.
- Sounds very normal thus far right?
- Now here comes the whammy – to me, this product is actually great for alleviating red, throbbing, irritated blemishes. That pesky mountain of a spot that’s threatening to turn into Mount Vesuvius? Use this.
- Annoying little whitehead bumps on your chin and at the corners of your nose? Use this.
- What this essentially does is to calm the skin down, and helps to eject the dirt and grime trapped inside to give you smoother skin.
- Obviously, the dirt has to go somewhere, so it comes out of the skin in the firm of a very minor breakout.
- I tried it on my chin for one week – half with the product, and half without. At the end of 7 days, I felt a significant difference in the texture! The side that I’d been applying the product on was very obviously smoother. Yay!
- Tried squeezing a pmple but couldn’t get the head out? Use this. It will not “ripen” the spot into a burstable pimple, but it will also prevent it from forming one of those “headless” spots that fester under the skin without ever “ripening”. [if you wanna "ripen" it, use the La Roche-Posay Effaclar A.I. which is more of a targeted spot treatment]
- It’s one of those products that is a daily must-use just for maintenance.
- Beauty tip: To fully utilise the benefits of this product, do a pore pack / mud purifying mask and apply this to draw out alllll the dirt in the pores.
Essentially, this is a skin-clarifying product that’ll help eject the pesky stuff that’s trapped in the pores or soothe redness and itchiness. Psst – here’s a secret: I sometimes apply this when I’ve squeezed blackheads from the nose and want to “close” the pores immediately so that dirt doesn’t get in (and so that I can also apply makeup immediately).
