Review : Guerlain Tenue De Perfection Timeproof Foundation SPF 20

By Neerajnavare
This is the newest foundation in my tow. I literally got it today, used it in the store and now I am ready to review it. Guerlain is well known in the luxury makeup circuits for their beautiful foundations and this looks like it surpasses a lot of expectations one has from a foundation and has a lot of brownie points to earn.

I loved this foundation and there is so much to rave about it. Its Guerlain's latest launch and actually launched with their CRAZY PARIS Holiday 2013 collection and I think this is the apt time to release this considering the long new year party nights..                         A regular long wearing foundation should have a semi matte finish, should be water resistant and transfer proof and last for long time till it gets removed. I am searching for a couple of long wearing foundations (that even I could wear for makeup jobs and feel happy) that make the whole experience wonderful and this is one of those foundations that would do justice to all the criteria that I am looking at. So lets have a look at what it is all about....
GUERLAIN saysWhat it is:
A long-wearing foundation with an advanced formula that binds with the skin for flawless, comfortable, 16-hour coverage.

What it does:
Guerlain’s first-ever Tenue De Perfection time-proof foundation was created with absorbent powders and corrective pigments that provide a fresh look and incredible hold while allowing skin to breathe for a full 16 hours. Silica beads capture excess oil to keep the polymer film intact, while the spherical micropowders act like a color stabilizer, ensuring the color does not change or darken during the day.
What else you need to know:
This foundation has full coverage and a matte finish.
Research results:
In a self-evaluation of 15 women, this foundation provided 16-hour hold after daily application.Suggested Usage:
-Shake, then apply to face with fingertips and spread from the center outwards and towards the neck until desired coverage is achieved.
-For more precise application and a lighter finish, apply with a brush in horizontal movements from the center outwards.

Tenue De Perfection comes in transparent bottle with the fluid foundation it. I somehow feel that there is a some colored coating which looks exactly liked the foundation color within (not sure until I empty half the bottle). The foundation comes in a convenient pump which dispenses the product with a lot of control. Overall it looks pricey and luxurious (just what we want for Guerlain).FORMULA
Its a liquid foundation with a medium buildable coverage (not a full coverage in one go) that is long wearing and is supposed to stay for 16 HRS. I am not sure about the time frame but as long as I wore it, it stayed put on the face. For a long wearing foundation like this, the texture is very light weight and the finish is semi matte luminous one. It does hide smaller imperfections and sets into a flawless all day lasting finish. It does have a good coverage and it did cover my under eye circles as well. With SPF 20, it may not be recommended to be used near the eye area but all this does not affect and bother me. It does have a moderate oil control and I prefer to set it with powder, the newest one I tried from the House of Guerlain which is Les Violettes Translucent Compact Powder Mattifying Veil. I tried the MEDIUM shade.

It does create a good canvas and feels very very light and almost as if you are not wearing any foundation. Luckily I found my best matching shade and I am so happy about it. For the last 5 hrs I wore, it did not oxidize on my Combination - Oily skin (I did use the Meterorites Primer underneath). What I see in the mirror is a luminous veil of foundation although my T zone is oily.
Chemical composition shows it to be a primarily water based foundation with a blend of silicones and pigments that spread very very well on the skin. It dries to a nice semi matte finish. They have an ingredient which keeps the formula stable and the foundation does not oxidize. I believe that this foundation is for all skin types if used with various degrees of moisturization and necessary skin prepping and priming. It did not feel drying on my cheeks and was very comfortable. After 5 mins of application, the foundation was almost undetectable on the face. Even with a SPF 20, it does not have a flash back in photographs which is a very good virtue for the foundation.  Tenue De Perfection is a replacement for the Parure Extreme foundation.
In comparison to some of the long wearing formulations I have tried, Tenue de Perfection looks like a winner over my next purchase of Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation which dries up to almost satiny matte finish. The former did have a certain glow on the face. This is quite sweat proof and a little dabbing did not remove the product. Looks like its transfer proof too but I haven't had those moments to check. Btw my foundation has not faded till now (5 hrs and still) and I am not waiting for exact 16 HRs. I shall put this to test soon. It does not look cakey like MAC's Pro Longwear Foundation though.COLOR
My best match is 04 Beige Moyen aka Medium Beige. This color does compliment the neutral peachy undertone in my skin and blends into nothingness when applied. I used a typical foundation brush at the Guerlain counter (they will release their new batch of makeup brushes soon) and it did spread evenly and beautifully. There were no streaks as it did not dry immediately enabling some blending time. The slip of the foundation is excellent and it imparts a luminous glow on application. The shade range in the foundation's color spectrum are very very good. Somehow the appropriate colors seem to adapt to the skin's natural skin coloring and make it look very very flawless. The shades available are:

  • 01 Beige Pale
  • 02 Beige Clair
  • 03 Beige Naturel
  • 04 Beige Moyen
  • 05 Beige Fonce
  • 23 Dore Naturel
  • 24 Dore Moyen
  • 25 Dore Fonce
These are the shades available in the Indian region.
These are some of the best foundation I use for myself along with the Guerlain Base Lumiere primer to keep them looking luminous and radiant. I am loving all these foundation as of now and a little extra biased with Tenue de Perfection. This foundation will be put to test in the summers as I want to see how waterproof it is.

Tenue De Perfection is sold at all Parcos stores and selected Guerlain counters all across the country. 30 ml foundation is priced at 3950 INR and its worth every penny spent.
Hope you liked this quick review. Do let me know in the comments. Does this foundation answer your questions about a long wearing foundation? Do try it out on the counters then..............
Till then,
Ciao
