Review: Fresh Peony Brightening Moisturizing Facial Toner

By Beautifulbuns

Beauty trends tend to evolve over time – I (or rather, le granny and le mothership used it) recall fondly the days when they’d take that chilled tube of Hazeline Snow out of the fridge for their nightly skincare regime. I also remember the days when toners were the in thing – which was then replaced by treatment essences / essence-in-toners for their increased skincare benefits. But hey, despite the name, they more or less still serve the same purpose – to hydrate/soften the skin and remove any remnant dirt (if you’re using a cotton pad – but this just means you need a more thorough cleanse). Just make sure you’re not using the super astringent types that strip your skin of moisture – which is why I’m currently using this from Fresh Beauty.

Fresh Peony Brightening Moisturizing Facial Toner – SGD$80

I say…

The Packaging: A tall plastic bottle with a twist-open cap. There’s a small opening that dispenses an appropriate amount of product without it overflowing (or requiring excessive shaking to get it out).

The Scent: There’s a sweet floral scent that’s not quite the norm. Not my personal favourite, but it doesn’t irk me either.

The Texture: A lightweight, watery liquid that is quickly absorbed into the skin without any residue.

The Verdict: I like that it doesn’t strip my skin too dry (you know there are some toners that still are a tad too drying on the skin) – it helps soften and soothe the skin after cleansing. In general, I haven’t seen any adverse effects from this – it’s been at least 2-3 weeks, and le skin is looking slightly more hydrated, and thus slightly firmer. I haven’t had any breakouts either. I’d say get it, but I do concur that it’s on the pricier side – at $80 (and without any outstanding “wow” benefits), it’s defo a want, more than a need. Get it if you’ve got a Christmas Secret Santa thang coming up😀 Otherwise, I’d say stick with some others like Belief’s True Tincture of Chamomile or Sum 37’s Secret Programming Essence.
