When I first started using this palette, I didn't understand the hype around it. I honestly still don't. But the more I use it, the more I love it. I feel like some of the mattes didn't swatch very well, but they perform a lot better on the eye. The mattes are not too pigmented until you pair them with some primer. Then they become something great. The texture of the matte shadows feels a bit stiff and not quite as buttery as I would like, but they still blend amazingly well. The matte and shimmer shades are great. Especially Molasses Chip and Cafe Au Lait. They do have a buttery texture on top of being pigmented and ultra shiny. The one shade that surprised me, in a good way, was Totally Fetch. It is beautiful in the pan, but bright pinks are often disappointing. Luckily that is not the case. It swatches well and it looks great on the eyes. It doesn't lose any of the vibrancy. Even the paler pinks in this palette are nice. The only shade that has let me down is Bordeaux. For some reason, I cannot get it to blend well. It looks chunky and patchy when I apply it in the crease. It works fine along the lower lash line, though.
Even when worn over a primer, I do notice that the shades fade and crease a little bit. This doesn't happen until after 6 or 7 hours of wear, so for me, it isn't a big deal. And of course this palette smells like chocolate. It isn't as intense as the original Chocolate Bar Palette, but it is still there. Which if we are being completely honest, is one of the selling features of these palettes. The packaging is great, too. I appreciate that Too Faced has switch to using tins. Their palettes look a lot nicer and are more sturdy as a result. The Chocolate Bon Bons Palette, as we all know by now, is adorned with hearts and a baby pink case. Even the eyeshadows are shaped like hearts.
While I do really like this palette, I don't see where it is hype worthy. It isn't perfect, but there are some fabulous shades and it looks cute sitting on your vanity. I have gotten my money's worth out of it already, so I do recommend getting it if you love eyeshadows and have one or both of the previous chocolate bar palettes. This palette is $49 and you can find it at Ulta, Sephora, and Too Faced's website. Although it is currently sold out on the Too Faced site.
