About real techniques Brushes -
Real Techniques brush line was created by Samantha Chapman who is one half of the well known sister duo 'Pixiwoo', both very experienced, successful make-up artists. As a pair the sisters have had major internet success through YouTube where they have millions of subscribers to their online make-up tutorials, me being one of them. As working make-up artists, Sam created this line of brushes to combine high-tech materials with innovative design to make creating a pixel-perfect look easier than ever but keeping them most importantly affordable. The brushes are all made from taklon bristles are ultra plush and smoother than the hair you'll find in other brushes. Since taklon is synthetic, it's 100% cruelty-free. The soft fibers help create a flawless, high-definition finish in any type of light, from sunlight to harsh indoor lighting. The collection is suitable for a wide range of products and every make-up need from powders, creams, and liquids to mineral make-up, highlighter, and shimmer.
Why to invest in GOOD Brushes -
Good quality make-up brushes are usually very expensive to buy but are the most important tool to your make-up application and each and every one of us should all own a set of good brushes as they are what helps us create an air-brushed, long lasting make-up look. They are very much worth the investment as if taken care of the right way, they shall last you a lifetime. The real techniques brushes are a great way to start up your collection or add to your collection as they are very affordable and all very multi-purpose so one brush can do several jobs, saving you money on having to buy designated brushes. Remember, you can use one make-up brush for whatever purpose you feel it does well, not just what the name states it should be used for, after all they are your tools! The Core Collection (set of 4 brushes)
- Contour brush: delicately applies highlighter to contour or create sheer, soft-focus finish.
- Buffing brush: ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation.
- Pointed foundation brush: Use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage (I find this works well for concealer).
- Detailer brush: precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas or use with lipstick for long-lasting shape and definition.

The Core Collection, real techniques
I personally like to use the buffing brush to apply my liquid foundation with as it gives me a very polished, flawless finish. As I said before use the brushes for the task that suits you not just what the description states. It works perfectly with all of my liquid make-up bases.
I also use the detailer brush to highlight with under my brow bone with a cream highlight as it gives you precise control to really define your brows. The foundation brush is actually better for concealer in my opinion as works a treat to blend under the eyes.
L to R: Real Techniques Foundation brush, Buffing brush, Contour brush, Foundation brush.
The set comes in a panoramic brush case which is a 2-in-1 case and stand and brushes have a flat bottom handle allowing them to stand up freely whilst working with them. Brush names on all the handles make for easy reference when creating your look.
Real Techniques Core Collection
What I then purchased since buying the above set.....yes, quite a few more. The Powder Brush
- Evenly apply powders and mineral foundations for smooth, high-definition results. This is a great brush to apply your all over setting powder or to tone down shine on the t-zone. It is so soft, you shall just want to stroke it!
Real Techniques Powder brush
The Expert Face Brush- Ultra firm and broad for application and blending of cream or liquid foundation. This is by far my favourite brush from the entire collection because it applies foundation perfectly. The density and shape of the brush allows you to get right into all contours of the face like around the corners of the nose, around the eyes and just blends your make-up seamlessly doing all the work for you. I simply adore this brush and wouldn't be without it. If you were to just invest in just one brush, then make it this one.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
The Blush Brush- Contour and define cheeks for flawlessly blended, high-definition results. The dome shape of this blush brush is brilliant at applying just the perfect amount of blush to the apple of the cheek and blends out smoothly. I use this brush for bronzer too when adding some contour and warmth into my face as does this with ease.
Real Techniques Blush brush
The Stippling Brush- This dual-fibre brush is the trade secret for creating airbrushed, high-definition results with all types of make-up. I love to use a stippling brush for cream blushers as creams can be very highly pigmented so this applies just the right amount at one time. The fibres are densely packed in making it a very precise application. Its really good for applying creams over a powder finish product too so they don't rub into each other but just sit on top instead (like applying a Nars multiple for instance over your foundation as they always go patchy!).
Real Techniques Stippling Brush
The Setting Brush- The setting brush gives a very controlled dusting of powder or highlighter. This is great for setting your under eye concealer with powder, as its so tiny it applies just the correct amount without making the skin look dry. So cute for applying highlight to all areas of the face ie cheeks, brows, cupids bow, bridge of nose.
Real Techniques Setting Brush

L to R: Deluxe crease brush, Base shadow brush, Eyeliner brush, Accent brush, Brow brush
The set like the Core Collection comes in a panoramic brush case which is a 2-in-1 case and stand.
The base shadow brush is not only great for applying an all over base color but great for applying a highlight under the brow too as it softly places just the right amount of color under the brow and blends it at the same time.
The deluxe crease brush makes contouring the eyes so easy and effortless and is also great for blending in your cream or liquid concealer seamlessly. The accent brush is very similar to the detailer brush from the core collection and I use them more or less in the same way. The liner brush is great for creating liner flicks and precise lines but may be tricky to use of you are not so confident when applying liquid or gel liners. You may need to practice a little or use for pin point concealing instead! The brow brush is extremely soft and not at all like those horrid bristle ones you can get. I use this with my HD brow palette and it actually applies the powders very softly giving a more natural finished brow look.I just wished they also sold these brushes separately as well as in the set as I would like duplicates of some of these brushes but not want the whole set again.Real Techniques Starter Set
You may have noticed ... color coding! The colour-coded brush system corresponds to the key steps of make-up application so you can create a flawless base, enhanced eyes, and the perfect finish like a professional. Each brush head is hand-cut to the perfect shape, allowing for precise application from dense coverage to a soft, delicate finish.KelliLash, My real techniques brush collection
Now, I do own a lot of make-up brushes aswell as these new ones as I love brushes and with working in the industry I have gained many through my work and use them professionally too so I need duplicates of ones that get used many times. My collection is not a normal one like all other professionals who own a huge amount, as they are your working tools.I can highly recommend these brushes if you are looking to build or start your brush collection and it is worth maybe investing in one or two key brushes to begin with. They would also make a great gift for someone wanting to progress in make-up or start up a collection. There are a few more brushes in the real techniques line in addition to the ones I own and another everyday brush set.Where to buy & Discount Code!
