I am so happy to announce that I’m getting some interaction with this blog! Thank you so much to this stylish soon-to-be mommy for sending me her outfits. Technically this isn’t a “street style” picture since she is on the other side of the world, but who cares! The Street Tuesday is about celebrating that little extra effort that moms (and soon to be moms) put into getting themselves ready for the day. So thanks for contributing and keep them coming!
2nd Trimester Style
She just entered her second trimester and has begun transitioning into ….dun dun dun….maternity clothes…yikes!
I remember when I first found out I was pregnant, I thought I would have to spend the next nine months in parachutes and moomoos, and then I realized that there are some VERY cute clothes out there for pregnant ladies.
I love her maternity style, which is a combination of chic basics like riding boots, button downs and form fitting tops with simple maternity pants (comfort above all!).
My favorite outfit is this one! Whoever said that pregnant women shouldn’t wear horizontal stripes? Not only is this top flattering, but it coordinates so well with her coral necklace!
This is one mom that knows how to accessorize. If you did your reading from the MyMonday reading list you know that accessories play a key role to looking stylish during your pregnancy.
A necklace, earings, scarf or even BELT (yes you can wear a belt while pregnant I’ll show you how tomorrow) all give that touch of “put together” even if you are wearing simple basics for 9 months.
I think the best way to get over that awkward period when you are just starting to show, is to accentuate your belly as much as possible. The tighter the top the better! Remember you’re not getting fat, you’re making people!
Question: How can I wear cute maternity dresses when it’s so cold out?
I definitely don’t have all the answers, but I LOVE GETTING QUESTIONS! We got into a little discussion via e-mail about all of the cute maternity dresses out there, but living in Canada, this mom to be is worried about the cold weather.
Here’s my solution.
Rock the Pants + Dress Look it is totally trending for this Fall
LAYER, LAYER, LAYER! Put on those comfortable maternity pants AND that stylish maternity dress.
Keep the colors tone on tone, and don’t go for a billowy top but something that is form fitting. If you want to layer on top use a bolero or shrug or shawl.
It’s important that the silouhette of your waist is visible so you don’t look short and frumpy.
And NO HEELS (your preggers) stick to tapered pants that tuck neatly into boots with a reasonable no slip heel, especially in Canadian winters that can be very slippery!
Don’t believe me that dresses + pants are trending?
Guestofaguest.com featured it a few months ago for their Fall 2013 trends roundup. Some of the biggest names in fashion like BCBG, Max Mara, Givenchy and Rebecca Minkoff all featured models wearing pants under dresses.
