I’ll be the first to admit “I’m not normal”…. I’ve never been. So I don’t think it’s strange that I’m still a little odd even now as a mom. Why am I saying this?
I was grocery shopping and saw the lovely Morena with her man and their CUTE LITTLE RED HEAD TODDLER. My reaction? “OH MY GOD, LET’S BE FRIENDS!”
She was totally nice, and didn’t seem scared at all! (kidding everyone is always a little scared the first time they meet me!). In the grocery store my son (2 years old) had an amazing time chasing around her son, who is younger by a few months. Her son is named Leonardo, and I swear he is the kindred spirit of mine. They instantly connected and a new friendship was born.
He’s honestly the only other kid I’ve ever met that resembles my own son’s personally. Totally independant and completely fearless, I know as soon as I saw them play together that Leo was a kid could keep up with my own red-headed monster. Could the myth of the fiery red head be true? YES. YES it is people. Feel sorry for me!
The Reason She Dressed
A few weeks passed and I actually maintained contact with Morena! They live further out of Modena’s centre, and so when she was in the city she gave me a call (nearly peed myself with excitement!)
We met up at the Parco Amendola, one of Modena’s beautiful family parks with man-made lakes, man-man hills, ducks, a mini-train ride, turtles, a cafe/bar, bike paths, and a full children’s bounce park with trampolines! It’s not Central Park, but it is a great way to spend the day here with kids!
I was worried that our kids wouldn’t remember each other, but I was SO WRONG. They instantly bonded, and if you follow me on Instagram (pssst follow ME!) you saw this photo:
We had ice cream, chatted, ran up hills, rolled down hills….it was a fantastic day. AND guess what? We’ve kept in contact! She’s totally a keeper, Morena is the girl that I would want to be friends with if i was back in high school, but I would have to come to terms with the fact that she is cooler than me and most likely won’t be my friend! Thankfully, high school is behind me and she IS MY FRIEND!
Let’s talk about her style for a minute…
What She Wore
One of the things I love about Morena’s style is how sexy she is!! Her rubber band watch, dark rimmed, over-sized glasses with bangs and a pony tail says “yeah I’m a little geeky”….BUT paired with her perfect length dress and revisited gladiator sandals say….”but a sexy geek!”
Her dress is the perfect length because it cuts the leg at a flattering height and shows enough skin to be sexy, however, it isn’t so short that she can’t walk or play uncomfortably. Her shoes are actually a designer brand that she bought at an outlet, and she’s paired them with a dress from the Italian store OVS, which is similar to a Target (but only sells clothes).
If she was a blogger I would read her fashion blog! It turns out that Morena used to own her own clothing store, and she’s travelled all over sourcing out fashion for the lines she carried in her boutique. She has a natural eye for detail and even now is working as a store Manager for one of Modena’s chicest clothing stores. Don’t get too close though, in the week she’s been there she’s already made record sales, so something tells me she is VERY good at selling….I’m staying far far away!
Making Friends
Sometimes it can be hard to put yourself out there and talk to a stranger. But I’ve learned that in a country where people keep the SAME GROUP OF FRIENDS (the “Compania”) their whole lives, if you want to get close to people you MUST be social and just introduce yourself. This actually gave me a new post idea. I’ve never really thought about how difficult it is in Italy to make friends, so I think I’ll share a bit about that when I get the chance.
IT IS HARD – that’s all I’ll say for now, so I’m totally happy that Morena called…..she had me at hello!
A Little Help With Marketing…..
If you are reading this you made it to the end of my post!! Thank you! Maybe that means you like my stuff!? If that’s the case, I wanted to ask if you could be so kind as to like me on Facebook! I share a lot of stuff to Facebook that I don’t get around to blogging about (like when I shaved my son’s head, or the new permanent blue pen makeover my couch just got! Or other real moms I see around town but who never make it to the blog) …. but don’t get me wrong I won’t spam your feed with a million posts a day (promise!).
I would love to have 1000 likes by 2020! But I don’t want to pay Mark Zuckerberg for them!
