The Reason She Dressed
Dina is my friend! We met for lunch with two other families and laughed and walked and chatted. She surprises me all the time with her amazing style and the outfits that she pulls together with newly purchased items together with items she’s had for many years.
Now, she’s no ordinary mom, she’s a full-time, working mom of two kids under the age of four with no in-laws around to help her! In Italy this is a big deal! She manages to make freshly made breads and cakes daily, she finds time to go to the gym and workout and her husband finds time to run. Together they are an amazing duo who take turns bringing the kids to swim classes and out for cultural events.
She works for one of the most important publishing houses in Italy which publishes many of the country’s top fashion magazines and together we chat about upcoming brands and their collections, styles that we are already sick of and how we both won’t succumb to passing trends because we know that they won’t last.
What She Wore
I love this mauve, taupe, grey ensemble that she wore for our lunch together, it is a perfect example of her urban cool style. Comfortable and relaxed yet put together and chic. Her leather bomber jacket is by local Bologna designer Giorgio Brato, who has hit international designer stardom for his collections of revisited “washed” leather jackets.
Giorgio’s family made artisan sewn leather motorcycle jackets, and since developing a real brand they started deconstructing, washing and “destroying” their perfectly made jackets into very daring designs.
I’ve met him at a fashion fair and can assure you that he is a pretty relaxed guy, very funny and masculine and you’d never think, just by meeting him, that he was an international fashion designer selling to the World’s most cutting-edge and prestigious boutiques.
You can find his designs sold online here, like this leather bomber for $1,330.
Doesn’t it look old and aged!? People pay good money to have their clothes look worn. So there you go, fear no more wearing your tattered clothes they are finally in-style again! In fact I’ve written all about the lux/destroyed trend here.
If you love his designs but can’t quite stomach $1,300 he has a second line WLG, that you can also find on sale here. Like this perforated leather bomber, for example, on sale at $420! Also available in red
Her shoes are by Rokin, whose designs I love, especially this cut-out leather pair in a beige peach tan, perfect for spring. I found them here (only size 6 available) on sale for $118.
Her skirt is Vintage by the Paris brand des Puces, Dina actually lived in Paris for a year and speaks fluent French, having done her masters completely in FRENCH including her thesis. When she talks about her life experiences she never makes a big deal out of ANYTHING, and I would have never even knows that she speaks Italian, Spanish, French (perfectly) and also English if I didn’t force it out of her!
I can just picture her walking the streets of Paris, shopping the small vintage shops in Le Marais, picking up this skirt and chatting with the sales lady before heading to a Caffe for a bite to eat !
Dina bought this bag a few weeks ago while I was in the midst of a 100 day shopping ban! Everyday she would try to tempt me by sending me text messages with the sales she had found, asking for my size an if I wanted her to pick anything up for me.
No. Thank. You. Dina. I’m. Doing. A. Shopping. Ban. BTW. I. Hate. You!
Dina has wanted a Chanel purse for the longest time, you know the one with the chain strap. Like this little vintage number I found on Farfetch for $2,900…that’s right two thousand and nine hundred….VINTAGE!!
Alas, she decided that it just wasn’t it her budget and so the hunt began for the purse that was “second best”. Through numerous text messages and virtual conversations while she shopped both on and offline, I lived vicariously through her hunt for the “next to perfect” bag.
Together, we decided on this great alternative by London brand UrbanCode and I actually like it just as much as the Chanel bag……. Well, let’s say it is a perfect runner up!
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing what I wore to take my son to Modena’s historic theatre for his first (technically second, but whatever) theatrical performance. I actually ran into Dina and her husband at the theatre who were there with their kids. The theatre is magnificent with its original frescoed ceiling and gold gilded balconies.
I’ll hope you’ll join me again tomorrow and have a great Tuesday
