Power Assigned AFL Interception Leader
1st Team All-AFL Linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson assigned through 2015Press Release: November 27, 2012The Pittsburgh Power announced today that they have been assigned Jack Linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson through the 2015 season. Jackson spent the previous two seasons with the New Orleans VooDoo. In 2012, he led the AFL with 14 interceptions while garnering 1st Team All-AFL honors and leading the VooDoo to a playoff berth.
“Alvin Ray makes any defense he plays in better,” remarked Power Head Coach Derek Stingley. “My defense is his defense; it’s the defense where Alvin Ray cut his teeth in. He knows all the checks, he understands all the situations like down and distance, field awareness, time, and personnel. It will be like having another defensive coach on the field.”
Jackson played collegiately at Albany State University where he starred on the offensive side of the football. He was twice named to the 2nd Team All-SIAC team as a wide receiver. However, in Pittsburgh, Jackson will bolster an already strong defensive unit. The Power led the AFL in total defense in 2012 allowing just 245 yards per game.
Stingley also noted how important Jackson’s presence will be in the turnover battle, “He’s a playmaker, his instincts are almost always spot on. We feel confident he’ll have double-digit takeaways for us.” The Power intercepted 17 passes total in 2012, while Jackson led the AFL with 14 individually. This is where the Power hopes he will make the most immediate impact.
