Last Years Champion: Rory McIlroy This weeks PGA Tour event needs little introduction as one of the 'big four' tournaments. The field is chalked with talent, and I'm sure everyone will be fighting to the finish for this title. Some players will be looking to build upon a great 2013 season, while others will be scrambling to salvage some greatness. Image the headlines if Rory McIlroy were to win this week? As exciting as that might be, McIlroy didn't make my list of top picks. Here's who did:
Tiger Woods: It's hard not to pick Tiger in this event, after an runaway performance last week at Firestone. He's clearly on his game so far this season, but is still on the hunt for a Major (2 top-six finishes in 2013 majors).
Hunter Mahan: This will be Hunter's first appearance as a father. After famously withdrawing midway through the RBC Canadian Open (where he was leading) to jet home for the birth of his daughter. I think he'll have the motivation needed to be on his game. Currently ranked 25th in the world.
Graham DeLaet: Climbing the latter on the world rankings, currently at 72nd, DeLaet has had a great season. With 5 top 10's so far this year, I think he's ready for a PGA Tour win; whether or not he's ready for a Major win, time will tell.
Lee Westwood: With a great history in Major events, Westwood will undoubtedly be on his game this week. In his last 16 starts in a major, he's recorded 12 top-15 finishes, seven of which were top-threes, including a T3 at Muirfield. Currently ranked 12th in the world.
Adam Scott: Tied for 14th at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, ranking sixth in total driving, T16 in greens hit and 18th in strokes gained-putting. For the season, he's 14th in total driving, 24th in GIR and third in adjusted scoring.
