Park Hyatt Melbourne Has High Tea with High Society

By A Beauty Feature @abeautyfeature

Everyone knows about high tea, or do they? It seems that some people may have confusion of “high tea” and “afternoon tea.” They are two very different rituals, with one common denominator – tea served at both. If we focus on high tea, you should be aware that between afternoon tea and high tea the latter is the larger one of the two. High tea was generally served between 6 – 7 p.m. as historically dinner was taken at sunset, this meal after work would consist of cake or a fruit cake, bread, homemade jam. High tea really took off in the North of England where a good high tea is a sight to behold and North Country women vie with one another to serve the best high tea.

Now that we take high tea a bit earlier in the day, if you have the opportunity to enjoy high tea at the Park Hyatt Melbourne they have kept the tradition of making your high tea a proper meal and by that we mean this is no ordinary ‘afternoon tea” served with just some dainties.

If you ask the Food & Beverage team who take care of lobby lounge guests, they will tell you that when guests are seated for their tea, and the three tier tray arrives, their anticipated hunger is so big they start to ask for more scones or sandwiches, to which the staff always reply, “Try first to enjoy and eat all of these, then if you want more please lets us know.”

With a colleague we settled down to the afternoon tea, and it’s really plenty. First a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne sets the mood, there is no hurry in this lobby lounge as Sebastian Falco Restaurant Manger radii restaurant & bar oversees the weekend high tea, staff move effortlessly from one activity to the other, always plenty of hot tea, sparkling water, coffee, food and of course champagne.

The three tiered stand offers guests a selection of salmon, ham and cheese, chicken with avocado, egg mayonnaise with watercress sandwiches on different breads, well made and full of flavor. Warm scones sit on the lower tier, very soft and easy to open, served with a fine clotted cream, a choice of apricot and raspberry jam, the apricot is particularly good.
