Online classes have become increasingly popular over the past few years and with good reason. For the busy individual with a full time job who also has aspirations for advancements in education, online classes can prove to be a good option. The online degrees offered by many institutions are just as diverse and various as the regular programs of the same study. The focus on the environment is not a new science, and humans have always sought out ways to improve the quality of their surroundings. This, in turn improves the health and well-being of both men and beasts.

Sewers and aqueducts were some of the first “green” inventions and environmental science has continued to advance through the ages. For people that take an interest in practical applications that can improve the environment, or “being green”, online degrees may offer a world of opportunity that one never thought of pursuing before.

Just about any degree can be applied to environmental engineering. A bachelor’s degree in earth science can be adequate for many entry level positions in environmental careers.

An online administration degree, for example, may be applied to any business related to the environment directly or indirectly such as environmental impact assessment and mitigation, water supply and treatment, wastewater conveyance and treatment, and air quality management. Entry level paralegals can find a great start in the legal field of environmental protection.

The scope of environmental engineering is vast and wide and studying online can be a great option for the working individual. Environmental engineering applies the sciences of many other engineering fields as well as business, education, architecture and design, and biological sciences. An individual interested in becoming an environmentally friendly professional should focus on obtaining a degree that builds specific talents and skills that they can utilize and enjoy and then seek to apply that education in a chosen field of environmental service.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook paints a promising picture of careers related to this science. Employment is expected to grow much faster than average with favorable job prospects in the state and local governments. For environmental scientists and specialists, a 28% increase in employment is expected between 2008 and 2018. [ U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. (2009, December 17).  As technology, like the internet and computers, increase with speed and efficiency, online degrees become more and more popular. Many universities across the nation are offering entire programs online via classroom interaction with email and the internet. Education and business alike has benefited greatly from technology and busy individuals now have a chance to pursue their dreams and advance their careers while keeping their full time jobs. Furthermore, many employers are willing to pay for their employees’ education and thereby increase the quality of their personnel and the value of their business.
