Olympus PEN – Early May Bank Holiday

By Holliegalloway @holliegalloway

I’ve been thinking lately how little I use a proper camera anymore. I use one for work all the time, but I don’t do enough stuff for myself and I really should, I’m just totally caught up in the convenience of having a phone to hand all the time. So this weekend I took my camera out on all the weekends little adventures and took some pictures. I’m also trying to fall in love with this camera again so I don’t feel compelled to buy another one for the summer.

Saturday

We went to The Cross Butts, a beautiful country pub just outside of Whitby. As it happens some of our friends are getting married there next year and I absolutely adore the place so that’ll be a great day. The food is literally 10/10, some of my favorite pub food I think I’ve ever had. There’s lots of animals there too.

Then we went on to Lealholm on the North York Moors. A quaint little village with a really great sweet shop, a river and stepping stones.

And we went to a friends Mexican themed party on the evening which had a totally incredible spread and the best cakes ever, especially the carrot cake, my god that was EVERYTHING.

Sunday

We took a day trip to York. York is one of my favorite cities to visit, purely because of how beautiful it is. It was a bit overcast but still a lovely day. The architecture is stunning and there is so much to explore. I’m a regular in York but I seem to find something new everytime I go, this time we found a secret garden right in the middle of town with amazing tudor buildings and a huge range of flowers.

I do really like this camera and when the weather is bright the colours show up super vibrant. That is something I particularly like about it, the bright colours. I also think the images have quite a nice depth to them. My problem with this camera is it’s a bit bulky and the lens doesn’t retract but I’m reminding myself why I liked it in the first place. I’m going to experiment with the shooting modes and things this week I hope. I just want something that is compact and light but still retains quality. That’s probably not in the current budget though.

What cameras do you guys use? Any compact recommendations?
