Oh It’s the Spring? Can Someone Please Tell That to the Weather!

By Reasonstodress

I have ANOTHER cold and fever.  I’m fine though.  Maybe my husband is less-fine, he worked all day and then came home to find me very sick (but making homemake Kamut flour pizzas and various other treats!) which means he did most of the evening responsibility things alone.

I know, I know it’s the SPRING, so why am I still showing fashion pictures of me in my fuzzy Stefanel coat and jeans/boots instead of showing you glamorous pictures in open toe shoes and tank tops?

Because, as I said IT IS THE SPRING……  IN ITALY….. which isn’t as warm as you think!

There is an Italian word for the Italian Spring weather “fregga”, which is a rather rude and crass word for saying “it’ll screw you” (te lo fregga ….aka it’ll screw you over) which it always does!

The Reason I Dressed

This was the same Saturday as when I saw the Real Italian Dad walking around in the center of the city.  Haven’t seen real Italian Dad yet?  Follow the link, he’s here for your viewing pleasure!! In the last 24 hours my site has been visited more times for this hunky father than for ANY of my real mom street style pictures….I got the hint ladies THANK YOU and I will photograph more random Italian men!  (It’s a good thing my husband is very confident!)

As I was saying …

After our stroll in the center of the city this particular Saturday, we headed along the “Viale” or large roads that go around the city-centre, to my absolute favorite mini-train in the whole wide world!!

My son adores this train, which costs one Euro and goes through the historic park. This isn’t one of those”go in a circle” train rides, oh no, this mini train takes you through the park, twisting and turning and chugging and whistling along.  If I was 2 years old it would most likely feel like a half hour voyage!!

It is run by Onoria, who speaks multiple languages, has an incredible vocabulary, multiple degrees and it by far one of the most social people I’ve ever met!! She LOVES her train and it shows!

But alas, the city gave permits to a bunch of small bars that are in the park so they could expand and now her train’s route is like a construction zone.  The problem is then city then BLOCKED construction, because there was too much expansion going on and now, the once beatiful park has almost been abandoned.  Hopefully they can sort everything out this summer.

What I Wore

I wore my handmade, hand-dyed Stefanel knit sweater / jacket.  I buy most of my Stefanel items here, becuase I can get them on sale.  I find it difficult to look at Stefanel items and not WANT EVERYTHING, it is the type of brand that has much more longevity than others.  None of their clothes are too “trendy” they are just really nice pieces.

This jacket is the same, I love it.  It is not lined so it is just like wearing a big fuzzy sweater.  I thought I would share this outfit since I also wore it a few days ago . Don’t get me wrong, It is warm in Italy, but depending on where you are located you can also be hit with a lot of humidity, chilly winds and huge temperature drops.

I live in Emilia Romagna, the only area of Italy with a Valley between two mountain ranges, we also have the Po River which creates a “marsh-like” humidity that my born in Canada body just isn’t prepared for.  In the sun you should NEVER SWEAT, because if you go in the shade you’ll catch a chill and then you’ll be “freggata” aka screwed over!  Every week since March I’ve had a cold/fever!!

I’m just not as prepared as real Italians for this tricky weather.  In a few days I’ll be sharing a look that is 100% Spring from a genuinely warm day we had last week.  I’m not going to complain though.  Our apartment doesn’t have air conditioning, and after 6 and a half years of living here, I know all too-well that once Sandal season officially arrives I will be melting under the hot Italian sun, or cooking in my hot Italian apartment. Wishing for the days when a chilly breeze would cool me down….and most likely also give me a fever!
