(OCC) Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics-Lip Tar

By Stephanie1 @NewBeautyReview
I first met David Klasfeld, the founder of OCC, a few years ago while I was taking the Beauty Makeup class at Makeup Designory(aka MUD) in downtown Manhattan, NY. (I just wanted to clarify the location because there's another in California.) I had stayed after class one day for an airbrushing lecture which had David as the instructor. He was warm & friendly as he demonstrated how to use his new OCC airbrush system.
Air brushing is not something I have ever had a real interest in but I went anyway because I like to keep an open mind to different systems & techniques while watching other artists work.
I was amazed at how effortless he made it all look. It was a very interactive, hands on type of class so he would ask us questions and vice versa. I commented on the work he'd just done on his model & he said, "I can tell you're very good with color." Yes, that was me tooting my own horn :-)
I never forget a kindness, so this compliment/observation always stayed with me.
I ended up running into him afterwards at a few events/classes & always wished him well. When I heard of the flagship store opening a few months ago I was really proud because it's hard to establish yourself in the cosmetics field with so many products out there. But OCC managed to create something unique, there really is nothing like it that exists. End of story!
About 2 months ago, I went in to buy some Lip Tars I'd been wanting from the "Pretty Boy" collection and was able to tell David how proud I was of his accomplishments, as he is quite deserving of his success. In part for making such amazing products but also because he's just a cool guy. (Hi David!!)
A few months after that initial class, I went to the annual Makeup Show, that I love so much, and saw there was an OCC booth set up selling airbrush products along with some nail polishes and a new lip product called Lip Tar. I tested it on my hand and knew right away that this was not your average lip gloss. I had never seen anything like it, ever! Being that lip products are my specialty, I pride myself in knowing, right away, what's what but I was stumped!
Was it a form of lipstick? Was it a gloss or maybe a stain? Whatever it was, it stayed on my hand for 2 days until the last trace of it finally disappeared!
To clarify, it's silky but not goopy so at first you think,"oh cool, it's a gloss" then you look again and you're like, "hmm maybe a lipstick" finally you surrender & come to the realization of, "ah, ok. It's a severe lip stain that tastes a little minty with a long lasting satin finish." Done!
There weren't that many selections so I chose a deep red called: NSFW
I realized after many wears that it's an intense, and I'm not using that word lightly, satin lip stain. You can wear it alone but you need only the teensiest, tiniest drop and even that's too much! It's as if you applied a long wearing lipstick, then blotted but it still looks & feels fresh. Bizarre but so fabulous!
You can add pigments to the clear one (which is on my wish list) and mix them up as you choose. I've given these as gifts so many times & people just go wild!
To say "a little goes a long way" is putting it lightly, the word that best describes a tube of Lip Tar is, Phenomenal.
I can't believe I don't have more, but that will change after I stock up at the Makeup Show in a few months. I'll be sure to tell you all about it ;-)
*FYI* I realize that to the untrained eye, Pageant & Pretty Boy may look the same but trust me, they're not. They are similar but Pageant is a deeper, bluer pink.
