Afternoon Lunch With a 98-Year-Old

Yesterday I ate lunch with a 98-year-old woman from the Basque region of Northern Spain.  She takes no medications — only a multivitamin.  The meal did not begin until about 3 PM, which is the usual lunchtime in Spain.  Instead of scarfing up our food in ten minutes like a typical American family, we must have sat at the table for at least an hour.  The meal was served in three courses.  First, we had
