Not Wicked Enough

By Whatsheread

Wicked As You Wish by Rin Chupeco is my second experience reading her novels. Just like my first experience, it left me feeling rather blasé. I cannot seem to care about her characters or the main story.

My biggest problem with this particular story is that I wanted to know more about all of the wrong things. I didn’t enjoy the main story. I loved the many fairy tale references and wanted to explore that side of things. I had no interest in the main characters. I thought the side characters were much more interesting, with more compelling backstories and personalities.

Plus, the story is slow in all the wrong places. The action drags, and I found myself wanting to follow the one nonverbal character in the story just because the story around that character moved at a much more enjoyable pace.

In general, I do believe there is a lot of potential within Wicked As You Wish. It is in the execution where the story falters. The end result is that the slow pacing and complete lack of interest in everything but the secondary characters create a novel that is more conducive to putting someone to sleep rather than keeping them on the edge of their seat. In other words, I don’t think Rin Chupeco is the author for me.
