Job Description

KBM Resources Group is an independently-owned natural resources consulting firm based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Our clients include resource-based industries such as mining, forestry and renewable energy, as well as all levels of government, First Nations and NGOs. At the heart of our business is our aerial survey service with integrated GIS mapping. We have over 30 staff, and we are growing!

KBM is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated natural resource intern to join our team. The purpose of the internship is to build the natural resource based skills of a recent graduate, including: knowledge of government policy and legislation; problem solving, the use of LiDAR and aerial imagery to solve natural resource-based problems; mapping and GIS skills; and data manipulation.

The successful candidate will be working in our Thunder Bay office under the supervision of a Resource Development Consultant.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Interpret legislation and policy (e.g. the Aggregate Resources Act and associated Provincial Standards)
  • Create detailed, site-specific map products using GIS
  • Produce written documents to support projects (including permit applications, project reports, responses to request for proposals, etc.)
  • Use LiDAR-derived data to support project needs
  • Create graphs and diagrams based on available data
  • Provide support to additional projects involving digital imagery and/or LiDAR when required
  • Participate in site visits and field work when required.

Required Competencies:

  • Recent graduate from a degree or diploma program in natural resources (e.g. forestry, biology, geology, geography, environmental studies/science, etc.)
  • Knowledge of natural resource-based industries (forestry, mining, renewable energy, etc.)
  • GIS proficiency
  • Technical writing skills
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
