In June 1812, Emperor of France Napoleon Bonaparte led a Grand Army of 500,000 men towards Moscow. By December, barely 25,000 of those men had made it back to Paris. The rest had perished, along with thousands of Russian soldiers and villagers. They had died from disease, heat, cold, hunger, drowning and enemy attack.
To commemorate the bicentennial of this tragic piece of history, we are organizing a 7-day stage run from Moscow, Texas to Paris, Texas. We will cover 230 miles (368 km) across Texas prairie & farmland roads east of Dallas, stopping at night at intriguingly named towns like Athens, Palestine and Canton.
We will leave from the French Legation in Austin on 30 November 2012, and run each day from December 1 – 7.
All are welcome, to run some or all of the route.
