My New Man

Even though traveling solo can be easily disguised as brave and independent, the reality is a little less inspiring. That is why I am so excited to have finally found myself a travel companion. He is great and is everything I could possibly ask for in a modern day relationship. He is tough, organised, extremely practical, very well put together and amazingly enough, never complains about carrying my things. I definitely think my mom will love him and am bracing myself for some solid competition when she comes over later in the year.

The story of how we met is actually a little romantic. On a sunny Saturday morning I was strolling down Putney High Street when I happened to glance across the road and saw him through one of the shop windows. I am usually pretty reserved when it comes to these types of things, but it was love at first sight and I immediately knew I had to at least introduce myself.

So I anxiously waited as the street lights changed colour, confidently strode into the store, slammed down £80 on the desk and took him right there and then.

Now I’m no professional, but at what point in time do you need to start worrying that you describe yourself as being ‘in a relationship’ with your backpack? In my defence, it’s not just any old backpack. It’s a Swiss…the army knife of luggage. It has a special compartment for just about everything, fits snugly in the overhead compartment and essentially makes running between trains, planes and busses a smooth operation.

It is an absolute essential for any traveler and is well worth the financial repercussion of turning in steak and living off low quality mince meat for the next month.

If only all relationships were this simple.
