So I decided when I turned 40 in April that at some point, some time, I would make some kind of “life-altering” change in my day to day habits and lifestyle. I did not know what it was going to be at that time and I was ok with that. I wanted it to come naturally and not be what is typically known as Januarian in nature (aka person makes a 1/1 resolution to get in shape, hits gym once a week for a month and then eats a bag of cookies)… Time was going to be needed to figure it out. The change had to come to me, not me seeking it.
- No gluten
- No white sugar
- No white flour
- No caffeine
Just to name a few. Bottom line is this. Healthy meals and snacks at all times. No processed foods. Stay as organic as the budget will allow. Make the right choices for your overall well being.
I quit drinking coffee COLD TURKEY. Just woke up the morning I planned on starting and went about my day without coffee and started eating off my meal planners and approved food charts. No joke it was a SHOCK to my system. Massive headache around 3pm and I popped an Ibuprofen to make it through the day. Being a 4-5 cup a day coffee addict it was expected to be a rough start. Push through like a boss and move on with the day. There’s no time to sit around and bitch and moan about it, you either make a life change and embrace it, or you fold like the rest. I don’t relent. I don’t fold.
You must think I’m on week 10 at this rate talking about it but no, I’m just nearing the end of Week 1. I make food in advance so I have it for a few days at a time like Broccoli Soup, Brown Rice, etc.. Every morning I’m having fresh juice from the juicer and it’s delicious. I have not eaten anything out of a package or box since. The old concept of “only eat from the outside of the supermarket, not the aisles” kind of applies. Everything fresh and alive is around the edges. All the processed crap in the middle.
My one miss so far? CRUNCHY THINGS!! I’m going to try to julienne a sweet potato this week and bake it to see if I can make natural chips of some kind. No oil, no fry. Vegetables are unlimited on this diet so fiber up and eat what you want if it’s a vege!!
Updates to follow. Wife is expecting my colon to blow out any day now!! But I believe my body has already accepted the change and is pleased with it’s newfound direction. A happy body is a healthy one!
