My Make Up Tips To Perfecting A Smoky Eye

By Beautybykaris @beautybykaris

Hey There,

I hope you’ve all had an incredible bank holiday Easter weekend, and aren’t suffering too much from the hangover today, whether it be a chocolate or vodka induced one. I for one, have definitely taken advantage of having the extra days off to enjoy some drinking, over indulging, and extra laziness.

I don’t think I need to tell you again how much I love a smoky eye! It is such a classic look, that can take you from day to night, and season to season. Surely every girl’s favorite look? I have been asked a few times about how I ‘create’ my smoky eye, so here are my make up tips. My step by step routine that I use for every smoky eye I do.

  1. Choose 3 shades of a similar color. The most popular tend to be 3 shades of grey, or brown, but you can always mix it up and get a little more colourful.
  2. Get the right tools. A Blending brush is essential for a good smoky eye, while a Crease brush and a Shadow liner will assist in the more detailed application.
  3. Start of by creating your base, apply your foundation and powder to your face, under and over the eyes.
  4. Apply your eye shadow primer, although the above will do.
  5. Start by applying the lightest color to your eyelid, and up to the brow line, using a brush applicator.
  6. Take the middle shade, and apply this to the eyelid base only.
  7. Draw a winged or C shape to the outer edge of the eyelid using the darkest shade and the Crease Brush, make sure this shade is visible when the eye is open.
  8. Using the shadow Liner, take the darkest shade and bring the eye shadow under the eye.
  9. Using the Blending brush, make sure there are no obvious lines between each shade. If necessary add a little more eye shadow to the eye area.
  10. Finish the look with some winged eye liner, and strip lashes.

How do you create a smoky eye? What colours would you pick?

Lots of Love,
