Summary:
Every beauty blogger out there has been raving about how good MUA, Make Up Academy, is, and how cheap the entire brand is. The first most notable thing about MUA is that they seem to be a dupe of more expensive brands; this nail polish, for example, looks like a miniature Essie nail polish, although coming in at a fraction of the price. In fact it’s one of the cheapest products on my entire website!
Everything about this nail polish is small; the pot, the brush handle and the polish applicator. In some ways this is good because it means you can just leave it in your handbag and touch it up as you go, but then it’s also bad because it means that it’s super fiddly to apply and that it will run out super quick. And I mean super quick. The main reason for this is that the nail polish is runny and needs at least 3 coats for it to look bold and to get rid of any brush marks. As such this nail polish is probably only going to last about 5 wears before I start struggling to get any of the polish out of the pot. Now I’m not being funny; I understand that it’s just £1 for this polish, but I’d rather have paid £2 and got double the amount of polish or a polish which was twice as thick.
The polish itself, given the price, is actually quite reasonable. It lasted about a day and a half before it started chipping – even with a good base and top coat. It dries quickly too and I didn’t experience any smudging which was a huge bonus. Even though the quality isn’t amazing I think that for the price it makes a great buy, and around Christmas time will make a fab stocking filler. Is it my favourite? Well, no, but the choice of colours is reasonable and if you don’t like the polish then at least you wouldn’t have spent lots of money on it. I’d still rather pay a little bit extra and get a Barry M nail paint, but it’ll do.
