What We Do In The Shadows is a documentary that sheds some light on a secret society as they prepare for the Unholy Masquerade ball.
Viago, Deacon, Vlad, and Petyr are vampires who share a flat, and the film shows the problems that can come with sharing flats, with a vampiric twist. Now, I actually watched the trailer for this with my flatmate and it didn’t really do anything for us. But since it was halloween this past weekend I decided to give it a try and I was completely wrong. This film had me laughing a lot and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I generally do tend to like mockumentaries and I think this one uses the concept well. The film has a very loose format, and this is because it was largely improvised, which goes some way to show the skill of those involved. Obviously it’s not just a comedy but a horror as well, and there is a lot of gore. It’s played for laughs so it’s not really scary, but it is graphic. It’s very offbeat and it’s not going to be for everyone because there’s not a strong plot, but I enjoyed it a lot.
