Director: Lauren Montgomery

Stars: Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, Andre Braugher, Susan Eisenberg, Summer Glau

When Supergirl comes to the attention of Batman and Superman, the Man of Steel takes her under his wing to try and teach her the ways of humanity. However, Batman and Wonder Woman have some reservations. As the three of them try to decide what’s best for the young hero, Darkseid takes an interest and from there the action shifts to Apokolips. Superman and his allies have to wrest Supergirl away from the influence of Darkseid.

I’m not sure why this was titled as Superman/Batman because Wonder Woman has just as big a role to play as well, but really this is Supergirl’s story. The story was decent although it’s probably one of my least favorite plots of the animated series so far as I didn’t like how the three veterans were so controlling over Supergirl. The pacing is a little off as well, because the climax comes and then there’s some more movie left.

But what this film gets right is the action because the fight scenes are some of the best. I loved how they used Superman and Supergirl’s powers in this film, one of the best is when Superman burrows the ground around Darkseid and then lifts it up and turns it over. It was inventive and gave the fight scenes a dynamic freshness that captured the idea of these incredibly powerful beings going up against each other. There were a few different settings used and I liked seeing Apokolips as it was something different, but the plot didn’t captivate me as much as some of the other films so this is probably my least favorite so far, although it was still entertaining.
