Right-hander Jameson Taillon, the top prospect in the Pirates' minor league system, will soon join Class AAA Indianapolis. Pirates assistant general manager Kyle Stark said Taillon, who is currently at Class AA Altoona, is expected to be activated Monday.
In 20 games for Altoona this season, Taillon, 21, struck out 106 batters in 110 1/3 innings with a 3.67 ERA. After being scorched for 10 runs on 13 hits in 3 1/3 innings July 13, Taillon allowed four runs in 12 innings without walking a batter in his two most recent starts.
The Pirates drafted Taillon out of high school with the second pick of the 2010 draft and gave him a $6.5 million signing bonus. Baseball America ranked him the No. 2 prospect in the Pirates' system entering this season behind Gerrit Cole, who graduated to the majors.
