The name of this beach is derived from two Malayalam words, Meen and Kunnu. The literal meaning of ‘Meen’ is fish and ‘Kunnu’ is a small hill. Thus the name Meenkunu in total means hill of fish, which indicates the prominent fishing tradition of the villages adjoining the beach.
