Making A Positive Impact With A Little Shopping From Uncommon Goods

By Heather Hahn @HeatherHahnn

I hope that you all are enjoying your Wednesday.

It’s always best when we get to the middle of the week, right?

Well, if you guys know me, and if you’ve been reading the blog since the very beginning, aka the “throwback” days, then you know how important giving back is to me, and how important it is to really make a difference in this world.

So, with that being said, i’d like to introduce you to Uncommon Goods.

Uncommon Goods is a website that is working to change the way that business is done by making sustainability a part of every decision that they make.

Some important things that Uncommon Goods is currently focusing on are:

+ A Positive Impact: In the Workplace & In the World

Uncommon Goods believes that sustainability starts with integrity in everything that they do. This includes, treating each individual inside and outside of their company with dignity and respect. They offer health insurance to all of their full-time (and most part-time) team members and provide fair wages to all of their employees.

Would anybody like a job at Uncommon Goods? You can apply, here.

+ Handmade, Recycled and Organic Products

Uncommon Goods is constantly coming up with a way to be creative, which includes exciting merchandise assortments, as they are working with artists and their small suppliers. Since Uncommon Goods has started running, they’ve featured products that contain recycled components and have not sold products containing leather, feathers or fur. They are fully committed to selling products that DO NOT do harm to people or animals, which I love.

+ Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Uncommon Goods takes note that by producing a catalog, they will end up using most of the earth’s resources, so they fully try their best to minimize that impact by shifting more business online, which includes limiting how many catalogs they mail. They print their catalogs on either recycled paper (virtually all of which is from 30% post-consumer waste) or paper sourced from FSC certified forests (which are harvested in a sustainable manner).

+ Better To Give

One of my personal favorite things about Uncommon Goods is that they GIVE BACK. For Uncommon Goods, they want to share their passion with their customers, which is why they created the “Better to Give Program” in 2001. This program allows you to select a non-profit organization to receive a $1 donation from Uncommon Goods at checkout. Total, Uncommon Goods has  donated over $1,000,000 since they created this program.

Uncommon Goods is also a founding member of “B Corporation”, which is an organization that is created to help consumers understand the social and environmental impact of their purchases.

Any company that can help the world, and help everyone living in it, I am all for, which is why I was ecstatic when I first heard about Uncommon Goods.

If you haven’t had the chance to fully take a look at their website, you can do so now, by CLICKING HERE.

If you haven’t heard of Uncommon Goods before, you’ll love that they have a little variety of everything on their website.

From things for your house, to gifts for her, or gifts for him, to art, jewelry, things for your kids, and even a bunch of fun things for your kitchen, and bar area!

I’m not kidding when I say that I could SHOP TILL I DROP on this website all day.
