I’m experimenting with lipsticks these days. I always wanted to try a red lip-shade but I didn’t have the courage to carry such bold shade. So, the other day I was surfing for “safe-red-lip-shades” and found this Mac chilli lipstick. Well, it’s not the most talked about Mac lipstick like Ruby woo or cosmo, but when I saw the swatches online I fell in love with the shade. I knew I have to get this one and this is my favorite lipstick currently. Let’s move to the review. 

My Take on MAC Matte Lipstick Chili:

MAC Matte Lipstick comes in standard black Mac casing with a sturdy cap on top. The lipstick shade number is written on the bottom of the lipstick and ingredients and other details are mentioned on the outer box. There is no color identification and if you have many MAC lipsticks then it can be a pain identifying each of them.

Mac describes “Mac Chilli” as brownish orange-red. It’s a very pretty burnt orangey red lip-shade which is universally flattering shade. On some people, it looks red with orange undertones but on my face it comes out more as an orange with red hints. The shade is not very bold and it’s a safe orange-red-shade which makes it more wearable during the day as well as in the night. In the tube it looks that it will have brown undertones but it doesn’t look brown after swatching. The lipstick is not very bright and if you are hesitant about wearing bright red and orange shades then MAC chilli is for you.

It has its trademark “vanilla” fragrance which all lipsticks have. I absolutely love the yummy fragrance. The lipstick falls in matte category but the texture isn’t drying. The lipstick is creamy which applies easily without tugging or pulling. No lip balm is required underneath and it doesn’t get dry over time. The shade is insanely pigmented and one single swipe gives you desired color, it hides pigmentation and gives opaque coverage.  The shade doesn’t bleed even though it’s pigmented and it also doesn’t enhance fine lines. It fades evenly without feathering or leaving patchy stains behind. The staying power is pretty amazing; it stays for 6 hours on me with a full meal in between. Isn’t it amazing? And if applied correctly with powder, blotting sheet and lip-liner then it stays up to 9 hours. Yes, I have tried it once and I was amazed to see the results.

Overall, I am very happy with the lipstick. Summing up the pros and cons:

Pros of MAC Matte Lipstick Chili:

  • Awesome red shade with orange tones
  • It will flatter Indian skin-tones really well
  • Trademark “vanilla” fragrance
  • Texture is smooth that applies smoothly
  • Highly pigmented
  • Doesn’t bleed
  • Its matte which makes it more natural looking
  • Creamy and never dries on my lips
  • Stays for 6 hours on my lips, it can last longer if you apply power and base

Cons of MAC Matte Lipstick Chili:

  • Gets a little dry at the end of the day
  • High price

Final Verdict:

If you are hesitant to wear bold red and orange lip-shades than MAC Chilli will not disappoint you. It’s a perfect red shade with orange undertones which is not-too-bold and will flatter Indian skin tones perfectly. The finish is matte but it doesn’t dry out my lips. The price is high but the texture, staying power and the staying power all makes it worth trying.
