Stage 6: Chambilly – Gannay-sur-Loire / 71 km
After a quiet Sunday in the country, this is a big start of the week which attacked riders on Monday, 71 km 68 km today followed by tomorrow to complete a first week total 430 km. The scoop of the day is the abandonment of Mireille Cormier, the only woman involved in the adventure. With persistent pain in her lower back plus the added heat of the day Mireille decided to stop at Km 51 of the sixth stage.
Mireille is in the trailer and could resume Saturday with eight new riders expected on the Ocean-Orleans (pronounced OO) – an additional event of 410km which begins July 21 at stage 11 and both events run together to St-Brevin-les-Pins.
The runners advanced today in the Allier along the canal-Diou Digoin, parallel to the Loire, a landscaped Green Lane and a stretch of route “eurovelo 6″ which connects Nantes to Budapest.
