Normally, beauty boxes scare me a wee bit. I'm not a billionaire so the thought of spending a monthly fee on something I'm not guaranteed to love makes me feel a bit wreckless, but thankfully I was sent this box to try out.
I'm not a fan of surprises or things I have no control over (I'm a Virgo and self confessed control freak. Sorry not sorry) so I was a little bit apprehensive that I was sent something I might not like.
For me, skincare comes second to makeup in the excitement scale of things (I like the pretty things!) so I was hopeful I would find a few makeup bits in here. I didn't find so many makeup things, but I'm definitely not disappointed in what I did find, and here's why!
First off, In the box is the Elle magazine, a mini magazine about the box itself and then the products which are adorned in pink shredded paper and tissue paper.
Inside the box is:
- Caudalie Vineactiv 3 in 1 Moisturiser
- Skin Chemists 24 hour aqua repair serum
- Redken Heatcure At Home Self Heating Mask
- Starskin Eyecatcher Smoothing Coconut Bio Cellulose Second Skin Eye Masks
- St Tropez Instant Tan Body Gloss
- Pur Minerals Concealer
I know I'll never get use out of the St tropez since I don't do well with fake tan at all, but mixed with a little bit of foundation, this is lovely to add some color and sheen to your face. I might use this on my decollotage area but aside from that I'm really impressed with everything else.
Caudalie is a brand I have used but never really reached for. They're big players in the skincare industry and this 3 in 1 moisturiser is deeply hydrating but doesn't feel heavy at all. I can apply this onto my face and not feel a trace of it after a few minutes.
The Skin Chemists 24 hour aqua repair serum feels lovely upon application but it does feel a wee bit tacky as it dries. This would be a good primer for makeup because it really grabs on to your base. I like a serum because they rarely leave a 'film' on my skin. As I've mentioned before, I really hate having any sort of oil on my skin and would scratch it off if I could feel it. I like this. I might not reach for it everyday, but I do like it.
I've never heard of a self heating hair mask, but this one by Redken is actually really good. I'm not sure what I think about the heating aspect, because although it felt great to apply something warm to my hair, I also felt it a little bit heavy (I think because the heat activated any oils in it). If you use this on the ends of your hair, you'll love it, but don't go starting at the root unless you want an elvis slick. I loved this for the ends of my hair though and would even go as far as to say it's the best hair mask I've ever used.
I'm heading to Florida in a few months and will be trying out a few travel things, so when I saw the star skin eye masks, I was excited to try them out. These were AMAZING! Not even a pretty palette could make me more excited than I am to buy more of these. Yes, seriously! I don't know about the ingredients and all that yeehaw but the product just WORKS. I used them when I was feeling a bit run down and for the rest of the night I couldn't stop touching my undereyes (which FYI, even looked less zombie like!)
Last up is the Pur Minerals Concealer. I always struggle to find a concealer light enough for my skintone (I look like Caspar the friendly ghost with teeth) but this actually fits the bill! I would say this has a medium coverage and is buildable to full. It is a little glowy, so I wouldn't be too keen on using it for blemishes but for everything else, this does what it claims to do. I'd consider repurchasing this once it's finished.
So that was all for the #LFELLEEDIT. I was pretty impressed with it, I'm not sure if there was a huge difference between this box and the regular boxes, but I'd be open to subscribing. It costs £15 a month and includes free UK delivery!
Have you tried out the look fantastic beauty boxes?
