Last Wednesday of July…What? Where’s My Summer?

By Crossstitchyourheart @TMNienaber

Has the end of July crept up on anyone else?  Now, I realize this should have been obvious as my birthday is at the end of the month and I’m counting down days until my birthday…but somehow the fact July is almost over keeps escaping me.  The summer is almost over.  When did this happen?  Anyone else looking behind them and trying to figure out where the time went?

I got a later start than usual today because I wanted to sleep in since it’s the last few weeks of summer.  I guess I’ve done a lot with my time, getting a job and reading books and all those other little things but it doesn’t feel like much.  I think the summer needs one more month.  Then I’ll be ready to start school/teaching again.  Oh well.  My planner has become my new best friend with all the end of summer teacher meetings, stuff to get done, and work hours to keep track of.  At least I like organizing.

I’m writing a separate post to talk about the Sophie Hannah author event I went to on Monday, so if you’re more interested in that than the cross-stitch updates it should be up just a few minutes after this post is posted.  And if you’re here for the cross-stitch, I’ve got some more progress to show you!

almost done!

Now, this picture isn’t the best in the world, the flash blew the colors out to something strange, but I think you can tell the basic idea of how it looks.  I’ve finished the windows, the traffic light, and most of the wall.  I really love the color combinations of the wall, with the different browns and multi-thread combinations.  It adds a lot of texture and depth to the piece.

Here’s the final stretch.  Everything is coming together so well.  Can’t wait to see it finished!  Most of what’s left is half-cross stitch so it shouldn’t take too long to get the rest of the white space filled, although there are a lot of backstitch and french knots to fill in so that might take a little longer. I am a little disappointed that the black doesn’t cover as well as it should, but I think once the whole piece is finished and not stretched as tightly as it is while I’m working on it the white space won’t be as noticeable.  I can always back it with black if I really want to I guess.

That’s all that’s going on on the cross-stitch front today, hope you’re all having a great week.  Enjoy the rest of your July!  Do something crafty, read a good book.
