L’Oreal Professional hair trends Autumn-Winter 2013-14, are now transforming its Colour Collections into an ‘It’ concept. Today, trends, or what’s considered “It”, can come from anywhere – runways, red carpets, and even the street. So L’Oreal Professional sources inspiration from the most important fashion shows, the world’s most photographed celebrities, and street style stars from around the world to create the season’s 3 key It Looks.
This democratization in the development of trends is evidenced by the rise of It Girls: young women renowned the world over for their sense of style, original taste in clothes and bold hairstyle choices. In fact, these women, alongside Hollywood celebrities, represent today’s trendsetters.

These three It Girls – Mary Charteris, Ella Waldmann, and Langley Fox Hemingway – were transformed by Odile Gilbert and Frédéric Mennetrier with this fall’s L’Oreal Professional It Looks: Rose Gold Retro Waves, the Silver Blonde Chignon and the Icy Brown bob.
From New York to Paris, the fall catwalks were illuminated with metallic shades, giving inspiration for this season’s color palette. To offer movement, depth and sophistication, colourists and stylists, from the runways to the salon, are playing with metallic shades of silver blonde, rose gold and icy brown to adorn the season’s hottest hairstyles. Inspired by these trends, Odile Gilbert and Frédéric Mennetrier created the three L’Oreal Professional It Looks.
Mary Charteris – Rose Gold Retro Waves
ROSE GOLD RETRO WAVES WORN BY MARY CHARTERIS
Rose gold is the hot hair color of the moment! This copper-meets-apricot shade of blonde is a reinvention of strawberry blonde thanks to INOA. From Bottega Veneta to Marc Jacobs, and Hollywood stars like Jessica Chastain, everyone’s falling for rose gold worn with retro waves. Colourist Frédéric Mennetrier channeled these inspirations to transform Mary Charteris’ rose gold locks. Odile Gilbert explains that the secret to this retro waves look is the hot double-texture effect: straight roots and wavy-meets-curly lengths.
Langley Fox Hemmingway – Icy Brown Bob
ICY BROWN BOB WORN BY LANGLEY FOX HEMINGWAY
This season, browns are cool and frosted! This icy brown trend, ranges from dark ashy brown to light, cool chestnut. Combined with the bob – the hairstyle of the year according to the New York Times – this season’s Icy Brown Bob is born. According to Odile Gilbert, the bob is absolutely everywhere this season. She explains, “What makes the bob even more contemporary this season is this graphic shape combined with a metallic brown colour, veering on antique bronze”.
Ella Waldmann – Silver Blonde Chignon
SILVER BLONDE CHIGNON WORN BY ELLA WALDMANN
Silver blonde is the new take on blonde. Seen on celebrities such as Carey Mulligan and Miley Cyrus, this platinum blonde can range from intense gray to subtly silver, thanks to the new INOA UltraBlond. Inspired by several fashion shows (Nina Ricci, Loewe) and celebrities (Kate Upton, Naomi Watts), this shade is often worn in a voluminous chignon that’s light and modern. “For Ella, we really wanted to work with a platinum base and add several highlights in shades ranging from intense gray to more subtly silver,” explains Frédéric Mennetrier. According to Odile Gilbert, the sophisticated chignon brings softness and a retro touch that contrasts well with the modernity of her silvery locks.
