Summary:
The fluid will keep your skin matte for about 4 hours or so and then become dewy. If you then reapply it your skin will become matte again instantly, even on unclean skin. The packaging does suggest applying the fluid twice daily for better matte, and this is the only downside I’ve found so far. It does work really well otherwise and it is easy enough to top up at lunch time, but it would be nice to have a fluid that lasts longer. The Angelica Ultra Matte Fluid does seem to last longer as I believe it’s stronger, but I like that this one because it’s more gentle on the skin and it smells much nicer.
Like the Angelica version, the Red Rice Ultra-Matte Face Fluid is very light and it’s a semi-translucent white fluid. It isn’t really runny; it actually has some texture to it, but neither is it a thick cream. It spreads extremely well and a little bit goes a long way, becoming more translucent when it’s rubbed in. It also has a very subtle and fresh fragrance, quite unlike the floral smell of the Angelica range – I definitely prefer the smell of the Red Rice range. I actually bought travel-size 10ml tubes as they were on promotion for £9 for 3 tubes – perfect for having 1 at home, 1 in my bag and a spare. I’m unsure how much it costs normally as the Red Rice range isn’t currently on the L’Occitane en Provence website or in store. I believe they may have phased it out with Angelica as its replacement.
As mentioned above, the only cons I’ve found about this product is that it only lasts for about 4 hours and it is a little difficult to buy as it’s not readily available online and in store. Otherwise I’m happy with it and I would recommend it, but only if you’re happy to top it up throughout the day. Well, that’s if you can find it in the first place!
