Kokie Cosmetics Now Available at Walmart: Brand Review and Swatches

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema

While at Walmart a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a brand I had never heard of: Kokie Cosmetics. Naturally I had to get some products to try out for you. I tried to get a little bit of everything so I could get a well rounded opinion of the brand. Before I go on, lets talk price. Cosmetics, whether drugstore or high end, are increasing in price. That being said, I feel like Kokie Cosmetics price point is pretty on par with other drugstore brands. I would say that price wise, they are similar to L'Oreal and Maybelline.

Whenever I stumble upon a brand that is new to me, I HAVE to try out their eyeshadows. Their eyeshadow palettes remind me of M.A.C's 9 shadow palettes, and Kokie Cosmetics has quite a few shade options. To keep things interesting, I bought Bare It All and Rainbow Riot. Bare It All is the perfect everyday neutral eyeshadow palette. It is very daytime and work or school appropriate. It is easy to work with and the pigment isn't too intense. Depending on your personal preference or what kind of look you are going for will determine if that is good or bad. The shadows are very smooth and buttery. They are not patchy or chalky at all. They blend really well, too. They are a little powdery, though. Rainbow Riot, as the name indicates, is a fun and colorful palette. The color payoff with all but thee shades is really good. The pink, yellow, and coral shades don't have a ton of pigment. The texture is on par with Bare It All, but they are a little bit chalky and patchy. I have been able to create some really fun looks with minimal effort. Each palette is $10. Oh, and the pans are pretty small. If you use them every single day, I suspect it won't take long to use up the shadows.

Even though I really enjoy the eyeshadow palettes, my favorite product so far is their Precision Brow Pencil in Ash Brown. I've been a long time advocate of Essence's Make Me Brow, but my brows still needed a little help in sparse areas. I bought this and I will continue to buy it. It is a bit stiff, but somehow you barely even have to apply pressure when using it. It is nicely pigmented, precise, it doesn't tug, and it is quick to use. I'm low maintenance when it comes to my brows, so this is just perfect for me. This pencil costs $10.

The last eye product I have is the Line and Style Long-wear Matte Eyeliner. It has been ages since I have used an actual eyeliner. I've been using Midnight by Anastasia Beverly Hills for the longest time. This isn't my favorite eyeliner of all time, but it is good. I wish it were more opaque and the felt tip could be a bit more flexible. It is long-wearing and it doesn't smudge. Plus the packaging is pretty cool looking. It is $8.

I only have one face product right now, and that is their translucent powder. I'm a fan so far. It blends really well and it doesn't even look like it is there. It doesn't crease or look the least bit heavy on me. It doesn't really keep my skin matte, but it does seem to help keep things in place. It is $10.
Finally, I have three lip products. Two are matte and one is a gloss. The first one is their Kissable Liquid Lipstick in Sweet Talk. This stuff is very, very matte. It can look drying if you don't prep your lips, but it doesn't actually feel uncomfortable. The color is a bright magenta and the formula is lightweight, non-sticky, and opaque. The second one is their matte lipstick in Blush Beige. I'm not a big fan of the formula or color. It is also very matte, but this one tugs and feels drying. The color is a dark dusty rose. It also is a little patchy.

Last but not least is their Lip Veneer Cream Gloss. I'm so sorry, but I don't remember the shade name. It isn't anywhere on the packaging and I threw the plastic away. I am fairly certain it is called Heart Delight. Cream gloss is an accurate name. It feels a bit thicker (but not sticky) and more opaque than a traditional gloss. This is a beautiful nude pink that feels comfortable on the lips and stays on well. After the shine wears off, the color still stays on for many hours. All three are $6 each.

The packaging for line is simple, but cute. Everything has black and white stripes with a little elephant. Everything feels really sturdy as it is made out of thick plastic.  Overall, I love the brand. It is pretty affordable and most of the products seem to be well formulated. I can see Kokie Cosmetics becoming a favorite brand of mine. At some point I want to try their foundation and concealers.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Kokie Cosmetics at Walmart. If my Walmart had their products, you should be able to find it in your area.
