Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette Review and Swatches

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema

This was hands down one of the most anticipated palettes of the season. It is rare to find a palette with such vibrant colors, especially one that is well made.  This is one of the palettes that I had to have, but in all honesty, I am a little scared of it. I love color, but sometimes I don't know how to wear it on my eyes without looking insane. But this palette has given me some inspiration. That being said, I really want to do a post that only features looks using this palette. Hopefully I will get that done by Sunday or Monday. Anyways, lets get to it.

Shades:
  • Love: shimmery rosy pink, one of my favorites in the palette.
  • Anthem:matte purple
  • Muse: a matte (very pale) lilac. It is so pale that it barely shows up on me.
  • Echo: indigo with pink and blue micro glitter, the most disappointing shade of the palette
  • Dark Wave: navy with very subtle sparkle
  • Synth: matte bright blue
  • Hyperballad: matte teal
  • Lemmy: shimmering grassy green. Another favorite of mine.
  • Misfit: matte lime green
  • Vinyl: matte yellow green
  • Legend: shimmering light gold
  • Fran: matte yellow. It honestly reminds me of corn.
  • Analogue: matte orange
  • Harpsichord: metallic bronze. You know I am all about copper and bronze.
  • Rewind: metallic cranberry
  • Destroyer: matte bright coral pink
  • Swoon: matte fussy
  • Vox: matte cool dark brown
  • Moulder: matte buttery yellow
  • Noble: matte tan
  • Skulls: shimmering vanilla
  • Black Metal: matte black
  • Strutter matte taupe
  • Lyric: pearly beige

How about Lemmy, though?! It is gorgeous. And Love and Harpsichord and Rewind. I have a thing for metallic shades. I can't help it.
At first glance, these shades might seem intimidating for someone not familiar with colorful eyeshadows.  But some of these eyeshadows are not crazy pigmented like you would expect.  Before you scoff and decide that this is a bad palette, hear me out. The shadows can be built up very easily. You can easily do a toned down look, or a more intense look with minimal effort.
The texture of the shadows is nice overall. There are a few that are more dry and a just a touch more difficult to blend out. This is mostly isolated to a couple of the matte shades. The majority of them are very smooth and blend like a dream, especially the shimmers and metallics.  By far the most annoying thing about some of the shadows is how powdery they can be. Normally that does not bother me, but it is a little crazy. The worst ones are Lyric, Noble, Strutter, and Moulder. Analogue is guilty of it, but it isn't as bad as the other four.  You will have to tap off excess product with this bunch. Other than that, they are great eyeshadows. The formulation is very much like the Shade+Light Eye Contour Palette.
These are the kind of eyeshadows that are enhanced by using a good eyeshadow base. They are so much more vibrant and like with most eyeshadow bases, their application is even better. I included some swatches of the shadows lacking in the pigment department over NYX's Eyeshadow Base in white. Either way, Muse is still kind of 'meh.' But I wore it on my eyelid today and it actually looked really pretty. The patchiness of Destroyer is my fault. I got too much on my finger.

I haven't had any issues with creasing and fading. They have stayed nice and vibrant on me all day. The one thing I am iffy on is the packaging. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful. I love the fact that it is shaped like a record, but you have to be very careful with it. If you turn it sideways, the palette will slide right out of the outer covering. I have damaged one or two of the colors because I had to learn that lesson the hard way. It is obviously not a palette that you want to travel with. However, I am obsessed with the way the eyeshadows are organized. It is very aesthetically pleasing to me  and it is basically an inverted color wheel. Instead of the purples being at the bottom, they are on top. My favorite part are the central neutral shades that can be used as transition shades or an all over lid shade combined with a subtle pop of color. I find that to be a very nice, and wise, inclusion. It saves us from having to use two palettes.

A comparison between new and old.

The palette is $59 for 24 .04 oz and it is valued at $110. It sounds pricey, but it is a nice palette. If you are a Kat Von D fan and love her beauty products, this is a must have. I also recommend it if you don't have a lot of brighter colors in your collection.
