Karachi Dolphins Bounced Back with Three-wicket Win

Karachi Dolphins opener Shahzaib Hasan scored 30 runs

Karachi Dolphins snapped up their two-match losing streak in Faysal Bank T20 Cup with a three-wicket victory over Lahore Eagles at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Tuesday.

Thanks to spinner Atif Maqbool’s economical three-wicket burst, Dolphins restricted Eagles to 113-8 and overwhelmed the target with eight balls to spare.

Shahzaib Hasan was the catalyst of Karachi chase with run-a-ball 30, which saw three boundaries and a six. Fawad Alam contributed 23 runs.

Dolphins, who suffered two successive defeats at the hands of Rawalpindi Rams and Bahawalpur Stags, are present at the fourth position in Group B with 8 points in four games.

Eagles, who also have four points after winning two of four games, are present at the third spot due to better run-rate.

Khurram Manzoor (7) and Hasan got Dolphins off to a sluggish start and could manage to score 16 runs of the first 27 deliveries before former got run out following a mix up with Hasan.

Hasan and Fawad Alam (23) stitched up 42 runs for second wicket to steady the innings before Eagles hit back with quick wickets.

When Boom Boom Afridi, who was bowled out for duck against Bahawalpur Stags, departed after scoring 19 runs, Dolphins had been slumped to 6-88.

However, Tanvir Ahmed and Anwar Ali scored 15 and 14 runs respectively to coast Dolphins’ wiggling ship.

Earlier, asked to bat, Eagles lost opener Imran Farhat in the first over, bowled by Mohammad Sami, before Taufeeq Umar (17 off 21) and Azhar Ali (25 off 24) steadied the innings with a 40-run stand.

Umar’s dismissal in the seventh over sparked a  collapse in Eagles batting line as they slumped to 5-70 by 14th over. Saad Nasim’s late 21-ball 28 ensured a three-figure total.
