I went with Meema to get chicks at Silvers Mill. They are very cute and fluffy.
And tiny, tiny. But they will grow up to be hens that lay eggs for us to eat. We bought 12--some for Grumpy and Meema and some for me and Mama and Daddy.
When we got back, I ran to get Grumpy because he is in charge of chicks.
We took them to the special chick house where they will stay till they get big enough to go in with the other chickens.
Meema came too but she is a little slow. It is because she is old and her knees hurt.
Grumpy put them in their new home but first he held some so I could touch them. They are very soft.
You have to be very gentle with baby chicks so they don't die. Meema says that the dark stripy one are Speckled Sussex. Speckled means with little spots all over but now they look stripy.
The fluffy yellow ones are Buff Orpingtons. They will be a browny-yellow when they are grown. Grumpy puts them in one by one and dips their little beaks in the water so they will know where to find it.
They also have food and a heat lamp to keep them warm.
After we took care of the chicks, I had to run around a little.
I like the redbud tree because I can pick the little flowers and throw them in the air like a celebration.
There is always something to celebrate, especially in Spring!
