John Cale's starkest album Music For A New Society will be re-released in expanded format next year. He remastered the original album and prepared an alternate, brand new version M:FANS. The seeds were sown at a show in Aarhus, Denmark on August 29, 2013. He performed the whole album, dropping Risé, Sam And Rimsky-Korsakov,, but included the outtake In The Library of Force, a track that surfaced on the 1993 CD reissue. Cale in the November issue of Mojo:

The rawness and immediacy that comes from making mistakes, as I did with ...New Society, that goes away when you do it again, so you need something else in its place. My motivation at the time was to try and escape, to refocus my life on stuff other than what was going on, and turn into something of value later on, which is a big part of why I wanted to present the album in the different way. My conviction is different as it was then.
Also, (...) I can't easily go back to the original. A lot of aggro and despair went into it, it became a sort of personal exorcism, and I recognize every gargoyle as they come along — even it yhey made the album at the time.

Cale released a video for the updated version of If You Were Still Around in 2014, dedicating it to his former band mate Lou Reed.

New studio album
Cale has a stack of 27 finished demos for a new studio album.
