Jane Trumper Becomes First Woman to Run Across The Simpson Desert

Ultrarunner Jane Trumper has just become the first woman to run across Australia’s Simpson Desert. Running in temperatures approaching 45 degrees Celsius,Jane, a nurse who only took up running 8 years ago, began her journey on April Fools Day, 2012.

It took Jane, a 51 year old intensive care nurse, 10 days to cover the 650 km journey, finishing in Birdsville after a detour caused by heavy rains forcing her to run 750 km. Jane attempted the multiday run last year but was thwarted by bushfires.

Jane is raising money for Bear Cottage, a charity that provides a respite hospice in Manly, NSW
