I am sure that Ms. Harms’ novel is perfectly lovely, complete with the requisite soul-searching and happy ending that tend to denote women’s fiction. I am sure I would have even (somewhat) enjoyed the story . However, when I see the same phrase – “best friend” – used six times in the first three pages (I counted) and a similar phrase – “oldest best friend” – used even more frequently in the next five pages, I am not going to be spending a lot of time with any novel. Sorry.
