Now that I have been using my Droid Razr HD for a little over a month I feel like I can do a full review. We had a blast when we went to Chicago for the kick off of the Verizon Voices Health and Fitness Campaign but I was nervous about the device that we would be receiving. I knew it wasn’t going to be an Apple product and I had never used a Droid before. My fears were gone quickly after we had a few minutes to play with our phones.
When smart phone first came out I had Blackberries for almost 3 years, I was mainly using it for email and didn’t even know what I was missing with a more advanced smart phone. Enter the iPhone 4 that Verizon started carrying in February of 2010. It was love at first touch. Going from a Blackberry to an iPhone was quite the transition. You mean the maps actually work? And I can get online? Shocking.
iPhone 4 and I had a great relationship so I decided to upgrade to the 5 when it came out in October 2012. I was happy with a newer, faster iPhone. Or so I thought. After figuring out how to use my new Droid Razr HD I was pretty enamored. Yes, there was a learning curve but I was shocked at everything this phone could do.
What I Love:
- The battery life. I can go a few days without charging. Seriously amazing!
- This phone is crazy fast, I compared it to Scott’s Droid and wow.
- The screen size. It’s a bit bigger than the iPhone and you can really tell in the screen size, great for Instagram and pictures.
- Gmail. This Type A is pretty happy that all the labels and folders show up. An organized inbox = a happy Mellissa.
- The Maps. They actually get me to right places and show traffic.
What I Like:
- Calendar. I like that Google Calendar can have it’s own screen and I can quickly see what I have going on.
- Pretty much all the apps that I had used on my iPhone were available for Droid and the change has been pretty seamless.
- The notification light that blinks when you have an email, Facebook/Twitter/Instagram notification.
Things I Dislike:
- We use Lotus Notes at work (I know, I know) and it just doesn’t work all that well on the Droid. Boo!
- My work calendar is a separate app from my Google calendar. I don’t love having to check two different apps.
- Yahoo Mail. I have a yahoo address as my personal email and it’s ok on Droid but not great.
- That you can’t delete the apps you don’t need. This is just a personal thing that I really like everything on one screen and things to be organized in folders. Yes I can do folders on the Droid but I hate that there are many pages of apps to scroll through. I am getting used to it though.
- Music. Everything I own is in iTunes and it has been a pain in the butt to get it on the phone. I think my solution will be to put it all on a memory card and use that. Not really sure yet.
- That the Fitbit doesn’t sync automatically with is (it does with the iPhone).
I have a few more months to keep testing, but I may be a convert. I’ll let you know in a few more months.
Droid or iPhone and would you ever switch?
Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Health and Fitness Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.
