Hype Or Not: Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Review

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

I had been wanting to try and write a Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser review ever since the brand was launched in 2014, and there's so much hype about this product as well so it made me want to try it more. Unfortunately, Glossier doesn't ship to the Philippines (and they still don't) so getting the product was quite hard while local online re-sellers sell it twice the original price! But I finally found one that sells it in just a right amount. So yeah, it took me almost four years to finally try the product but is it worth it? Scroll down to know.

WHAT IS IT?

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser claims to be the "one face wash to rule them all" an ultimate daily wash, at least according to their website. You can use it on dry skin to dissolve away makeup and grime, or on wet skin as you start your day. The pH-balanced, creamy gel formula is made with a blend of five skin conditioners so your face is left feeling healthy and soft, never tight. Its cleansing power comes from the same gentle cleaning agents found in contact lens solution, so it's tough on impurities and still safe to use on your eyes. You can read about its ingredients in this CosDNA Analysis.

PERFORMANCE

APPLICATION: In the morning, massage 1-2 pumps onto wet skin (keep it in the shower!) and rinse. To remove your makeup, use it on dry skin, gently and thoroughly massage 2-3 pumps directly onto eye area to melt away mascara; add water, massage over the rest of your face, and rinse. Unless your makeup is waterproof, in which case you should use a cleansing oil first, and follow with Milky Jelly for complete clean.

SCENT: It has a mild floral scent. In fact, in resembles the Philippines national flower, the sampaguita.

PACKAGING: It is packaged as is, only the pump bottle with a plastic wrap. It also comes with the iconic glossier bubble wrap pouch and cute stickers.

TEXTURE: Despite the "milky jelly" name, I don't find the texture resembles a milk with jelly, it's more like a cream-gel in my opinion. Just like those moisturizers for people with oily skin.

RESULT: If you enjoy washing your face with a foaming cleanser, then this is not the product for you. Think of Cetaphil, if you already used one, The Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser doesn't foam too. Actually, this kinda resembles the Cetaphil formula, only more gel-like, thicker and smells better. Using this too resembles the method of oil cleansing, but without the oily feeling and the difficulty of washing it off with water, you just massage your face with it until you feel it's already clean.

After rinsing, I could really feel my skin is soft, clean with the dry or tight feeling, it truly is a conditioning face wash! However, as a makeup remover even if I didn't use a waterproof makeup, this product is not that effective. You still have to double cleanse because it doesn't really completely strip off the makeup on your skin contrary to the product's claim. Personally, I prefer this as a double cleanser.

VERDICT

PROS: It is hypoallergenic, safe for the eye area, suits all skin types, soap-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, cruelty-free, non-comedogenic, and vegan. It's a good second cleanser that leaves your skin clean, moisturized, and soft. Plus, it smells lovely.

CONS: It does not effectively remove non-waterproof makeup, and for a basic 6oz. cleanser, it's too pricey. For its price, you already have a 16 oz. Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser for less.

WHERE TO BUY?

You can purchase the Milky Jelly Cleanser in Glossier Official Website for $18. They ship only to the US, Canada, and the UK.

For those who live in the Philippines, I got a sample from Cult Beauty PH but they also sell it for Php1300. Or you can check this post about a list of sites where you could buy Glossier in the Philippines.
