How to Spot FAKE

By Girlratesworld @girlratesworld

Have you ever had your skin turn green and blue from jewelry? Well I have – on many occasions. I admit, it’s scary the first time it happens. You’re almost in awe over the fact that your skin could turn green! Ewwwww!

I’ve always had this weird body chemistry with fake silver and gold. Besides the greenish-blue necks, fingers and earlobes I’ve experienced over the years, fake jewelry also irritates my skin. I can endure days of itching, peeling and even burning. Once my mom realized my allergic reaction to fake jewelry, she taught me how to always checked for ‘the stamp’.

Genuine grade gold and silver usually has a stamp of authenticity. Gold has the karats stamp. Silver has the .925 stamp. But there are other ways of sniffing out impostors. Below is an infographic that explains 9 other techniques.

So do I never wear fake or costume jewelry? Of course I do. I’m a fashion snob. I know just how far to go before my skin freaks out over the fake jewelry. For example: (a) I never wear for more than 2 or 3 hours. (b) I don’t sleep in it. (c) I don’t wear it if I plan on sweating. (d) As soon as it begins to itch, I yank it off!
