How I Use Peppermint Oil and Tea Tree Oil in My Beauty Routine.

By Townhousepalette @townhousepal

Believe it or not, but I have been using natural oils in my beauty routine for years. They are, in my opinion, cheaper and healthier than anything found at the skincare counter in Nordstrom. So I thought it would be beneficial to some if I share how I use them.

Natural oils can be used for a plethora of things from a nasal decongestant to skin treatments. I know Jaclyn Hill uses peppermint oil as a nasal decongestant and for aromatherapy purposes. Eons ago, I talked about how I used oil from India to treat my hair here. Nowadays, I mainly use Tea Tree Oil and Peppermint Oil.

Tea Tree Oil

I used to use Tea Tree oil all the time before going to college. It was great as a nasal decongestant due to its powerful mint aroma. However, I used it as an acne treatment. I would dip a Q-tip in the bottle, then run under hot water for a second or two. The oil helps kill bacteria from acne, while the heat from the Q-Tip flattens a pimple. Keep in mind that running the Q-tip under water for too long can strip the Q-tip of the oil.

Desi Perkins recently talked about how she uses this oil in her skincare routine here.

Peppermint Oil

I use Peppermint Oil in my hair. This oil helps promote hair growth, but I use it mainly to rid my hair of product build-up and dandruff. I like to fill a bottle with water, add like three to six drops of the oil, and then shake it up. I apply the concoction to my hairline, parting my hair different ways, and massaging it in. I let it stay for up to thirty minutes.

Protip

These oils are very potent, meaning they are strong! If you apply too much, there is a possibility it will burn your skin. Diluting these oils in water will make the application process safer. Also, testing these oils on a patch of skin prior will prevent damage to these areas.
